How long is the perfect article?

Pulled in by a catchy headline then felt cheated? That’s the opposite effect you want to give your reader. So what is the right length for an article to give away good info and be seen as an authority?

It’s annoying to arrive at an article that promised ” How to find love online” only to find that its too long winded so you scroll and scroll for tips, but got bored and left, or too short to even give you any decent pointers. Again the scientists have been hard at it with your tax money doing surveys and testing out eye patterns finding out all this info, and what they have found is 400-700 words is the perfect size article.

My brother once sent me an email:

Hi Al, how is it going? We’re well here, not much more to say, bro…

I replied:

Bro, how can I improve on a fifteen  word email? With a sixteen word one. Al

Like anything, simple is good! Have a beginining, middle and an end. Your first paragraph should be a summary, because when people re-post to social media they can see immediately what it is about and it should reflect the headline.

Middle is the nuts and bolts of your article get the facts out and if it is bordering on 700 or over put the main facts in bold or italics or make the font larger so people who scan will get the message.

In my teachings as a social media and Online marketing trainer to business I often tell people to write from the heart, give away info and some secrets in your article, and keywords will flow naturally, but keep a few of the top keyword phrases in mind and again there are a few places that will tell you what people are searching in any industry.

I teach my clients a drill or a system to write the article, Post to Facebook, have Facebook Linked to Twitter, twitter linked to Linkedin, then bookmark to Digg, Stumble upon , Delicious and a few others, then ping! You’d be surprised that it does not take too long out of your diary each week to get a decent web presence for your business

Don’t forget a call to action at the end, after all we are all in business, and writing articles is fun but you want it to pay the bills

So to make your online marketing pay the bills contact me to see when our next online marketing course in UK  is
